Track and Field

There will be a mandatory track and field parent meeting tomorrow, TODAY at 6pm in the auditorium. Those athletes in winter sports will need to pick up a parent packet in the main office. Any athlete who has not picked up travel, team rules and teacher evaluation forms, can do so in the main office and those forms are to be turned to the main office once signed.

Chik-fil-A

Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy will meet this Thursday, January 30th. Please be prepared to share ideas on Service Projects.

Scholars Bowl

Scholars’ Bowl will have practice today, Tuesday, at 3pm in Dr. Bier’s room A289. All new participants are welcome to join our award-winning team.

Beta Club

The next 11-12 Beta Club meeting will be today after school in room 417. Come find out about the projects for the spring semester!

Hillside Cafe

New drinks at the Hillside Cafe. Our winter drinks will end on January 31st. We will be replacing them with two new Valentine drinks Chocolate Covered Strawberry and Cupid Float. In March for St. Patrick’s Day we will be selling Leprechaun Frappe.

Shoe Drive

Bring your new and almost new shoes to school and drop off at Dr. Bier's room or Mr Jarnigan's office. These shoes in great shape are given to help start small businesses in West Africa. Your shoes shouldn't just go to waste. Bring those great looking shoes you'll never wear to Dr. Bier's or Mr. Jarnigan's office. The shoe drive ends on Valentine’s Day.

German Club

The German Club will not meet this week but will resume next week, Tuesday February 4th. If you’re interested in joining the German Club it’s not too late! Please stop by room 254 if you have any questions.

Project LIT

Project LIT will meet today in the library from 3-4 for I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter book club meeting. Snacks will be provided.

AMC Math

The AMC Math Competition will be held in Mr. Berry’s room A216 January 30th during 1st period. Students who have registered for this test need to talk to their 1st period teacher about missing 1st period on Thursday.

England/France Trip

ATTENTION all travelers going to England and France with Mrs. Gregg and Mrs. Torbett: You must bring your passport or a copy of your passport to the February 11th meeting. This is mandatory. If you cannot attend, you must bring your passport or a copy of your passport to Mrs. Gregg or Mrs. Torbett prior to the meeting date.

Winter Homecoming!

It’s Winter Homecoming, or Hoop-Coming time again! Toppers, get ready to dress is our Hoop-Coming attire for next week as our dress up days are as follows:
• Monday, January 27th is neon Day so Be Bright Toppers!
• Tuesday, January 28th is Disney+ Day so Dress like your favorite characters from Disney+
• Wednesday, January 29th is Hawaiian Day so wear Grass Skirts & Leis
• Thursday, January 30th is Sports Day so Wear your favorite sports attire
• Friday, January 31st is Color Wars Day. You are to match the color of your Student ID

The Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports teams have nominated their candidates for Hoop-Coming King and Queen. Elections will be held on Canvas next Wednesday and Thursday. The crowning of our Topper King and Queen will be on Saturday, February 1st before the varsity boys take on Gate City in Topper Nation. We hope to see everyone there! Go Toppers!

Library: World War 1

The Science Hill High School Library invites you to a special exhibition exploring how the lessons and legacies of World War I continue to affect the United States today. World War I: Lessons and Legacies is currently on view throughout the library until the end of February. The poster exhibition is brought to you courtesy of the Smithsonian and The United States World War I Centennial Commission. FAFSA

Seniors looking to go to college/university, technical school, or any post-secondary program must file their FAFSA to receive financial aid! This includes Pell Grant, TN Promise, HOPE Scholarship, and other forms of state and federal aid.

TN Promise

Seniors who are looking to use TN Promise must have their FAFSA finished by February 1, 2020. Currently, there are 200 TN Promise eligible students who have not completed their FAFSA. If you need assistance, contact your counselor or Lucas to make an appointment. If you would like to try and complete it on your own, there are How To Video links under the Counselor’s tab on the school website.

CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS 2020

A required parent meeting will be held Monday, February 3, 2020 at 6 PM in the SHHS Cafeteria for all rising 7th-12th grade students who wish to try out for the LBMS 7th & 8th Grade Cheer Team and for the SHHS JV and Varsity Cheer Teams. All students who wish to tryout MUST have their parent/guardian at this meeting or you will not be able to try out. It is important to be on time for the required meeting. Specific times and locations of tryouts will be discussed at the mandatory parent meeting.
Optional Clinic for rising 7th -12th grade candidates will ONLY be offered at Science Hill High School in the NEW GYM on Monday, April 20, 2020. The optional clinic cost is $15.

VARSITY AND JV CHEER TRYOUTS (Rising 9th – 12th Graders)

Monday and Tuesday, April 27 – 28 are practice days for tryouts and are required. Wednesday, April 29 is the informal tryout day and is required. Thursday, April 30 is the formal tryout day and is required. Janet Phillips will distribute letters to candidates on Friday, May 1 at 3:00PM. You can find her in the Topper Student Center on the SHHS Campus. Further details will be discussed at the parent meeting.

DANCE TEAM TRYOUTS 2020

A required parent meeting will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 7:30pm in the SHHS Cafeteria for all rising 9th -12th grade students who wish to try out for the Varsity Dance Squad.  All students who wish to tryout MUST have their parent/guardian at this meeting or you will not be able to try-out.  It is important to be on time for the required parent meeting. Specific times and locations will be discussed at the mandatory parent meeting. The mandatory dance clinic will take place April 21 and April 22. Tryouts will be held on April 23. Letters will be distributed by Janet Phillips in the Topper Student Center on Friday, April 24 at 3pm. Further details will be discussed at the dance meeting. Parents/Guardians of rising 9th-12th graders- all forms and physicals must be completed and submitted to Janet Phillips at SHHS by Friday, February 21, 3pm. Parent signatures are required when turning in forms and physicals.
