Checklist For SENIORS GRADUATING IN 2020

  • Attend College Visit Night (August 15, 5:30-8 pm), College Fair (Aug 29, 6-8 pm), & Fin Aid Night - ETSU  Sept. 12, 6-8 pm.
  • Schedule a senior meeting with your counselor ASAP. Check and recheck graduation requirements. You are responsible for making sure you have completed all steps. Check for and clear any outstanding obligations. Remember you cannot walk across the stage at graduation unless all requirements are met.
  • Stop by Registrar’s office in her new location and meet our school registrar, Mrs Robinson.  She can answer questions about transcripts, Parchment, community service and your senior fee.
  • Complete Senior Transcript Permission Form and pay $10 senior fee in Registrar’s office.  Complete your community service requirement of 40 hours and turn your forms in to the SHHS registrar.
  • Use your parchment account to request any transcripts needed for college applications etc.  Go to Parchment.com to create an account if you do not have one.  
  • Read the SHHS daily announcements at jcschools.org/sh to learn about parent meetings, local scholarships, deadlines, college representative visits, etc.
  • Check the counselor’s website regularly. Go to jcschools.org, then click departments, then counseling. This website has helpful info regarding scholarships, ACT/SAT, college selection process & financial aid.  You should also sign up for REMIND – directions on counseling website.
  • Take or retake ACT/SAT by registering at the testing website (actstudent.org or collegeboard.org).  Extended time testing for those who qualify must be requested 6 weeks prior to regular registration deadlines.  Only certain test dates allow extended time.
  • Athletes who wish to play Division I or II sports must register with NCAA Eligibility Center at eligibilitycenter.org.  ACT/SAT scores must be sent directly from testing agency by using code 9999. Students attending an NAIA school should go to playnaia.org to register.   ACT/SAT scores must be sent from the testing agency by using code 9876.
  • Make visits to prospective colleges/ technology centers, etc.  Complete college applications and essays well before the published deadline and watch your deadlines.  If recommendations are required, give the teachers and your counselor at least three weeks to complete these.   Provide updated resume and Student Recommendation Request Form when requesting recommendations.
  • Males should remember to register for Selective Service at sss.gov when they turn 18 years old.
  • Sign up for TN Promise at www.tnpromise.gov, between August 1- November 1. IMPORTANT!!
  • Students wishing to apply for financial aid of ANY TYPE must complete their FAFSA after October 1st of their senior year. Some types of aid are only available for a short period of time, so complete this as soon as possible at fafsa.ed.gov and you must obtain a username/password at fsaid.ed.gov beforehand.
  • Order your FINAL transcript through Parchment prior to graduation and choose “Hold for Grades.” Final transcript orders are processed by mid-June. After 6/30/20, you will have to pay to send transcripts.
  • Complete the Senior Checkout Form at the end of the school year. This form has important information that needs to be completed prior to graduation.

  • December                        Scholarship deadline – most public TN 4 yr. universities
  • February 1, 2020             FAFSA filing deadline for TN Promise
  • April 6, 2020                     Mandatory TN Promise meeting –Grand Topper Hall – 5:30 pm
