SHHS wrestling coach Jimmy Miller named coach of the year

Science Hill wrestling coach Jimmy Miller was named 2018 Tennessee Head Wrestling Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Miller helped Science Hill achieve new heights as the Hilltoppers boys wrestling team finished as 2018 TSSAA State Runner-Up last season.

“It’s a true honor to be chosen as the 2018 Wrestling Coach of the Year in Tennessee,” said Miller, who also serves as a science teacher at the high school. “The 2017-18 wrestling team was a special group of young men that put the team first. This team sacrificed a lot through the off-season and made improvements each-and-every week through the season.

“The goal was set high for this team and finishing second in both state tournaments set not only personal records for me, but for our program at Science Hill. It was a joy to coach this team and without their dedication to each other, and the countless hours my coaching staff spent in the wrestling room and on the road with this team, none of this could have been possible.”

The Science Hill boys’ team had two state champions in Chase Diehl (168 lb.) and Luke Story (168 lb.). Arthur James finished as state runner-up (145 lbs.) and he became the first Hilltopper wrestler to medal three times at the state tournament. Senior Denzel Medina took home a third-place finish at 220 pounds and Jim Kalogeros finished in fifth place in the 182-pound weight class for the TSSAA.
