Seven Schools that earned TVAAS

Johnson City Schools one of 11 districts statewide to earn rare honor

Johnson City Schools recently learned that they are one of 11 districts across the state to earn a Level 5 in all subject-area TVAAS composite categories.

In addition, seven Johnson City Schools earned Level 5 Distinction for Annual Growth based on the 2017-2018 TCAP results. Those schools include Cherokee Elementary, Lake Ridge Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, North Side Elementary, Woodland Elementary, Liberty Bell Middle School, Science Hill High School.

“We are very proud of our entire district,” Johnson City Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Steve Barnett said. “Teachers in all of our schools work very hard with students to grow and develop each year. These seven schools demonstrated exceptional growth in the TN Ready assessed grades.

“This data confirms that Johnson City Schools is one of the leading districts across the state when it comes to implementing effective practices and making sure we do everything we can for our students.”

The district earned Level 5 status in all other categories, including overall composite, literacy composite, numeracy composite, literacy and numeracy composite, science composite and social studies composite.

The Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) is a statistical analysis of student assessment data used to measure the impact schools and teachers have on their students' academic growth rate from year-to-year. Using a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 the highest possible score), TVAAS measures student growth, not whether the student is proficient on the state assessment. TVAAS helps educators identify best practices and implement programs that best meet the needs of their students, as well as make informed decisions about where to focus resources to ensure growth opportunities for all students.
