Tuition options available for Johnson City Schools
The Johnson City Board of Education opened two Level 5 elementary schools for new tuition students for the 2019-2020 school year. Liberty Bell Middle School – which received Reward School Distinction last year – and Science Hill High School are also open for tuition students interested in attending Johnson City Schools.
Both Mountain View Elementary and North Side Elementary earned Level 5 distinction last year and offer renowned programs that include STEAM and Fine Arts programs.
Tuition for students inside Washington County is $1,650 or quarterly payments of $412.50. Tuition for students outside of Washington County is $2,150.00 or quarterly payments of $537.50
Mountain View Elementary offers programs such as ballet, chorus and orchestra. Mountain View Principal Dr. Melissa Stukes and her team have a heralded P.E.A.C.E. Leaders Program (Peace-making skills, Empathy, Positive attitude, Character and putting forth Effort) that allows 4th grade students the opportunity to exercise their positive leadership qualities. Mountain View is located on King Springs Road, which is just outside of Carter County.
Northside Elementary is one of Johnson City’s premiere technology and science schools and provides 1:1 laptops for 3rd and 4th grade students. Grades K-2 have iPads and desktops to drive their technology investigations. Dr. Sharon Pickering and her staff value the relationships that they have formed with the community and provide numerous activities before and after school to enrich and grow academics for their students. North Side Elementary is located on North Roan Street, in the heart of Johnson City.

New Tuition Students: (begin accepting in person April 23, 2019)
Applications for a new student will be accepted from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Central Office (Columbus Powell) for the following schools:
- K-4: Mountain View Elementary or North Side Elementary
- 7-8: Liberty Bell Middle School
- 9-12: Science Hill High School
After applications have been received, they will be reviewed and awarded on space availability.
Student of a Teacher with the Johnson City Schools System (New Students):
- Children will be allowed to attend the school where their parent teaches.
- If the parent teaches at Indian Trail, Liberty Bell, or Science Hill High School, the elementary student will attend Mountain View Elementary, North Side Elementary.
Existing Tuition Students:
Applications need to be submitted no later than May 29, 2019 by 4:00 p.m.
