Kaytee Jones named new South Side Elementary Principal

Johnson City Schools Superintendent Dr. Steve Barnett announced the appointment of Kaytee Jones as the new principal at South Side Elementary School. Jones replaces long-time principal Dr. Anne Littleford, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

“We are very appreciative of Dr. Littleford’s service during her tenure at South Side. Anne was a great principal and she will be missed,” Dr. Barnett said. “We are excited about Kaytee’s opportunity to lead South Side and the energy she will bring to one of the strongest community-supported schools in our district.”

Jones currently serves as assistant principal at Fairmont Elementary School and has over 14 years of experience in the classroom, including serving eight years as a teacher at North Side Elementary. Before that, she served in the classroom at Cedar Bluff Elementary in Knox County for six years.

Jones said she is excited about the opportunity to serve South Side and the community.

“I am thrilled to join the South Side family and grateful for this opportunity to lead,” Jones said. “The staff, students, and families of South Side are amazing and I am excited to work with them to best serve the needs of all learners. I appreciate the support from the team of administrators in our district who work together to ensure all students receive a top-notch education.”

Jones is currently a member of the 2019 Governor’s Academy for School Leadership (GASL) Program. She was selected as one of 28 assistant principals across the state to participate in the one-year fellowship program, which was created to cultivate and develop future school leaders across Tennessee and improve school effectiveness and student performance.

Jones earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in early childhood education from the University of Tennessee in 2005. She then earned her Education Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University in 2017.
