Level 5Johnson City Schools recognizes eight Level 5 schools

Johnson City Schools recognized eight schools for earning Level 5 Distinction from the Tennessee Department of Education for annual growth during their August 26 Board of Education meeting.

Those schools include Cherokee Elementary, Lake Ridge Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, South Side Elementary, Towne Acres Elementary, Woodland Elementary, Liberty Bell Middle School and Science Hill High School.

The District earned Level 5 overall composite score and also scored a Level 5 on numeracy composite, social studies composite and literacy and numeracy composite.

“We are proud of our entire district,” Johnson City Schools Superintendent Dr. Steve Barnett said. “All of our teachers, students and faculty work very hard to grow and develop each year. We are proud of these eight schools for attaining their goals and I am confident that our entire district will continue to grow and improve.”

The Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) is a statistical analysis of student assessment data used to measure the impact schools and teachers have on their students' academic growth rate from year to year and not whether the student is proficient on the state assessment. TVAAS helps educators identify best practices and implement programs that best meet the needs of their students, as well as make informed decisions about where to focus resources to ensure growth opportunities for all students.
