Emergency Notification Test on October 24 at 4 pm

Johnson City Schools to test Emergency Notification System on Oct. 23 at 4 pm

With winter weather just around the corner, we will be conducting a test of our emergency notification system SchoolMessenger on Wednesday, October 23 at 4 p.m.

We use this system to efficiently communicate through email, text message, and telephone calls, with our families via an automated system. The primary use of the system will be to notify our families of delayed openings, early dismissals, school closings, and emergencies.

During this notification, all contacts will receive a notification through e-mail, text message and telephone call, if you have provided that information. In order to receive these messages, it is important that schools have your current phone number and email. If you would like to receive notifications through a text message, the school must have your cell phone number and you must respond to the opt-in text you receive (if your number has never been entered into our system). You may also opt-in by sending a text with the message “Y” or “Yes” to 67587 from the cell phone.

Families have the opportunity at the beginning of the school year and in early January to update contact information via paperwork that is sent home. If you would like to update your contact information during any other time, please contact your school’s front office.

How do you receive my information?

At the beginning of the year and after Winter break, we send home forms that collect student information. The emails and phone numbers that are returned on those forms go into our SchoolMessenger system.

I received a text message from Johnson City Schools. Why am I receiving this?
The text message you received is the district’s opt-in invitation message. It was sent by SchoolMessenger for Johnson City Schools. To continue receiving informational messages from JCS, please reply YES. If you do not reply to this invitation message, you will not receive any future JCS texts from SchoolMessenger unless you take steps to opt-in.

How do I opt in to receive text messages if I did not receive the invitation text?
Text the word YES to 67587 from your wireless device(s). Device numbers must be listed in your school’s PowerSchool data. Please allow 24 hours for data synchronization to take place.

How do recipients opt out of receiving text messages?
To stop receiving text messages on a particular number, text STOP to 67587 at any time, or opt-out online at http://schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg.

I opted in, but I’m not receiving texts?
Ensure that the district has your correct mobile number in PowerSchool. It will take up to 24 hours for this number to be active after being changed or added to the district’s system. Next, send a text with the word YES from that mobile device to 67587. You should receive an opt-in confirmation message.

Will I be charged for the JCS text messages that I receive from SchoolMessenger?
SchoolMessenger does not charge recipients for the text messages that they receive or send to the short code; however, wireless providers may charge for individual text messages depending on the plan associated with the wireless device.
