Renner named TSSAA Girls' Wrestling Coach of the Year
Science Hill Girls Wrestling Coach Jon Renner has been named the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Girls Wrestling Coach of the Year, TSSAA announced last week.
“I am surprised and highly honored to have been selected Coach of the Year,” Renner said. “I would like to thank the TSSAA for this honor and for their commitment to the growth of girls’ wrestling, not only in our state, but also across the country. This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, both past, and present, who have come through our program.
“This would not have been possible without the tremendous support from our parents, staff, administration, and alumni. I am thankful and feel most fortunate to be a part of Topper Nation and look forward to the continued growth of our program and girls’ wrestling in Tennessee.”
Renner, who was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2018, has been an asset to Science Hill and girls wrestling across the state, according to Science Hill Athletic Director Keith Turner.
“Jon is a true pioneer in the sport of women’s wrestling,” Turner said. “He has quietly led our program to become one of the best in Tennessee, with multiple state championships and appearances. Coach Renner is just one of those coaches that will do anything to help anyone.”
Renner earned the honor after his Lady Toppers brought home the region championship last season. The Lady Toppers will be looking to build on that success with eight of their 10 wrestlers returning for the upcoming season.
