CREATIVE MOVEMENT AND DANCE
Creative movement and dance are
conducive to the overall development and concept of a child. The dance and
movement program at Mountain View Elementary, taught by Mrs. Mary Anne
Sowers, is based on Graham Technique and exercises. Classes are
divided into warm-up/floorwork, centerwork, and movement in space.
Students focus on improvement skills in coordination, agility, amalgamation,
rhythm, and body strength, including gross and fine motor skills.
Class studies of literature and poetry help develop and appreciation of
other cultures, along with skills of creative problem-solving,
improvisation, memory, exploration, and self-confidence. Students
integrate movement and dance skills into their classroom curricula,
utilizing math, science, language arts, and reading, thus increasing
knowledge, listening skills, self-esteem, self-discipline, and sharpening
their skills of observation...all to ultimately realize the important goal
of becoming life long learners.
MOUNTAIN VIEW BALLET ENSEMBLE
The Mountain View Ballet Ensemble is the performing outlet for the Mountain View ballet students. Students in grades three through five are eligible to pursue a concentrated study of classical ballet in the after school ballet program, under the direction of Mrs. Sowers. Performance opportunities take place both within the school system and off-campus. Each student trains in a ballet class once a week in addition to rehearsals. The ballet ensemble has performed for many local civic and business groups, as well as with the Johnson City Symphony.
