School Counseling Program

The school counseling program at Mountain View is designed to benefit all K-5 children.  As they grow, children often have normal developmental challenges.  A student's ability to positively react to these daily experiences will influence their future - including future goals and choices.

Counseling, consulting, and coordinating services are provided by the school counselor to students, faculty, parents and guardians. Here are the weekly activities in the counselor’s class:

COUNSELING
Through classroom guidance lessons, children learn life skills such as understanding self and others, feelings, awareness, career awareness, problem solving, building healthy relationships, cooperation, and personal safety.

CONSULTING

The school counselor is available to assist parents with needs or concerns that regard students.

COORDINATING

The school counselor has access to many great support services for children and their families and can assist families in contacting needed services.

BUILDING CHARACTER

Mountain View Elementary uses the Character Counts program.  The six character traits taught throughout the school year include: TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, CARING, and CITIZENSHIP. Students are encouraged to recognize other students who are demonstrating these character traits.   This endeavor is supported by McDonald's which provides incentives and awards for the students selected as Character Kids.  Children are recognized weekly for demonstrating that week's character trait.  A group picture is displayed on the "Wall of Fame".  Fifth grade students are treated to lunch with the counselor; McDonald's provides dessert and treat bags.
