Technology Lab

Each student in grades kindergarten through fifth attends Tech Lab for one hour every week.  Students use a variety of educational software as well as internet based activities as they increase their knowledge of computers.  Students in third through fifth grade also use Type to Learn software which teaches them keyboarding skills.

Kindergarten students use Jump Start Advanced Kindergarten software. Second through fifth grade students use Advanced Jump Start Adventures, Harcourt Math, Everyday Mathematics, Math for the Real World, Type to Learn and Clue Finders.

First grade students primarily use the Success Maker software. Success Maker is a reading and language arts program that provides instruction targeted to each student's needs, gives educators the ability to forecast and manage student achievement on high-stakes tests, and addresses the full range of learners' needs - regardless of level - through its standards-based, targeted curriculum.

Third grade students are beginning a new “pilot” program called Study Island.  Study Island is a web-based program that provides instruction, practice, assessment and reporting built for TN State standards.  It has rigorous academic content that is both fun and engaging and very user friendly.  Study Island’s Interactive Test Drive will give a full view of all subjects and topics that are available for each grade level.

In addition to the different software programs, third through fifth grade students take TCAP Practice Tests to prepare them for the TCAP tests in April. All students take a Star Reading test three times a year as well as ThinkLink testing to gauge student achievement and needs.
