Mrs. McDonald

Physical Education Teacher
My name is Nancy McDonald, and this is my third year at North Side. I am very
excited and happy to be in the North Side family ! Before coming here, I
taught at Science Hill High School. I received my B.A. at Carson-Newman
College (1990) majoring in English, with an emphasis in creative
writing; in addition, I earned an athletic coaching concentration /
physical education minor. I received a M.ED. Degree from ETSU in 1992,
with a major study of Physical Education: Teaching and Administration.
I enjoy
outdoor activities with my husband, Mark, and my two children: J.D. and
Laura. We have 1 cat, 2 dogs, and 4 fish.
My
philosophy of education centers around three concepts. I want my
students to: 1) Feel accepted
2)
Feel successful
3)
Feel loved .
Yes, I desire to
care more about my students than my content area. I believe that once a
student feels safe and accepted, he/she will be ready to learn.
In physical
education classes, students are taught skills listed in the TN
Curriculum Guide. Classes involve activities for aerobic and anaerobic
exercise, as well as strength and flexibility conditioning. With great
consideration I incorporate math, science, language arts, and/or social
studies content in lessons. Paper and pencil assessments, along with
skill tests will be conducted.
I look
forward to the 2008-2009 school year with your child !
