"Put a little drama in your life!"

SHHS 8/9 Drama Department

Elves, Inc.

On Christmas Eve, we all love to count the number of presents under the tree—especially our own! However, if there weren’t any gifts for you, how would you feel? Probably just like all those children who never have any gifts of their own.

 The Project:

This year, the Science Hill High School 8/9 Drama Department is continuing a gift-giving project for underprivileged children called Elves Inc.

This project will involve the selection of children from Mountain View Elementary and North Side Elementary (and siblings) in Johnson City. Names, clothing sizes, and wish items will be taken for children who are without the financial means to enjoy even the smallest of Christmas gifts.

How to Help:

A holiday tree will be placed in the drama room (A231), and any student, club/organization, faculty or staff member, or administrator will be able to choose a child from the tree. The gift-giver can shop at his or her convenience for any items listed on the child’s tag. Once the gifts have been purchased, they can be dropped off in the drama room. The gifts will be secured until delivery at the appropriate school.

 Privacy:

Each student’s identity will remain confidential. A first name and a code number are all that will be given on the “tree tag”. All personal information (for sizes) will be provided by the parents on a release form that must be signed in order for the child to participate.

 Community Involvement:

There are three ways that we will attempt to involve the community in this project.

  1. Anyone may come by the school and chose a tag from the holiday tree; however, the gifts should not be wrapped. Simply bring them back in the store bags with the name tag attached. If possible, please provide a box or boxes for the gifts.
  2. Any business that wishes to participate may donate tape, wrapping paper, decorative bags, tissue paper, and scissors for our elves to organize and wrap the gifts. (We will acknowledge the donations in a letter to the editor of the Johnson City Press.)
  3. Any ninth-grade drama students who wish to wrap gifts may participate. The hours involved in wrapping gifts may be counted toward the total required volunteer community service hours for graduation from SHHS. (Please see Mr. Hoilman for additional details and sign-up information.)

For More Information:

Please contact Tracy Hoilman at 232-2177 for information concerning this event! The sooner we can get your assistance, the stronger and more successful our project will be!
