STaR Troupe

(Social Tales about Responsibility)

One of the very best ways to teach is through dramatic presentation. This concept will be illustrated in a new division of the 8/9 theatre program called the STaR Troupe. The program, with the acronym:

S ocial

T ales

a bout

R esponsibility,

will provide a number of positive experiences for our students as well as those serving as our audiences.

The initial script, "The Cool-O-Matic Experience," has been endorsed by the First Tennessee Human Resource Agency's Character Counts/Moral Kombat character education programs.

The goals of the program are for students to be:

• honest with themselves, their teachers, and their friends;

• respectful of authority figures and their classmates' property;

• responsible for their own actions.

By the conclusion of the play, the characters will learn a valuable lesson about trusting one another, accepting individual differences, and valuing other people's property.

Our students will have an opportunity to create stories, develop characters, and produce important messages concerning social issues facing our school system's youngsters. An additional advantage in being a member of the troupe will be the status of "role model" for the younger students.
