A.R. Rhea A.R. Rhea's humility came as naturally as his athleticism, and the left-hander humbled a lot of hitters while pitching for Science Hill and Milligan College. Rhea's intestinal fortitude might've never better been framed than it was in when he pitched a staggering 13 innings for a complete-game victory in the opening round of the District 1-AAA tournament his junior season at J. Fred Johnson Stadium. Rhea threw 163 pitches in the 6-5 defeat of Tennessee High. He struck out 12 in a two-hit shutout against Dobyns-Bennett his senior year. He once wore headband to basketball practice with "PITTS" marked on it (the era of Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon). "When we have a big game," Jennett said during Rhea's freshman season at Milligan, "A.R. will be on the mound."
