Bill Durham 1958 Durham set a scoring record with 134 points (22 TDs and a PAT run) in '57. He scored four TDs in a game four different times. He returned punts 67 and 75 yards against Knox Central in the Optimist Bowl and was named MVP of the game. Durham was All-Southern Region, a Wigwom All-American, The Sporting News All-American and chosen Athlete of the Year at Science Hill for the 1957-58 school year. He finished his career at Science Hill with 32 TDs, two conversion runs and even passed for a score. He scored from six different positions: quarterback, fullback, halfback, wideout, kickoff returner and punt returner. Kermit Tipton said that Bill Durham was one of the best open-field runners we've ever had at Science Hill. Sam Humphreys indicated that Bill didn't have blazing speed, but he was plenty fast and hard-nosed. And he'd sidestep you and make a lot of people miss him. He ran two punts back and won MVP when we won the Optimist Bowl 14-12. Bill lived in Keystone and we'd go to Memorial Stadium and work on our own on Saturdays and Sundays. I remember I caught a punt late in the game and we were down 12-7. I retreated after catching it, then lateraled it to Bill, and he took it for a touchdown. He must've went 75 yards. The right one ended up with the ball.
