Randolph Adams Honorary Scholarship Renewal Guidelines (Renewal Application)
This scholarship is designed to encourage those who plan to major or minor in music. It is understood that in order to apply for a renewal of this scholarship, the student is responsible for abiding by and documenting the following criteria and information as well as the timely submission of this information to the SHHS Choral Boosters' Association by April 30 of the year preceding the first semester for which a renewal scholarship may be granted. Renewal applications may be obtained from the Choral Director and sent to either the Choral Director or the Choral Booster President. All information will remain confidential.
The student must be in good standing and be continuously enrolled as an undergraduate music major or minor since graduation from SHHS. Evidence of enrollment shall be documented by a letter of recommendation from the student's faculty advisor clearly stating said enrollment for the upcoming year of study for which the application of the scholarship is being made. Should the student change or drop their area of study in music for any reason, the student may be asked to repay some or all of the scholarship to the SHHS Choral Booster Association.
The Renewal Scholarship check will be made out to the recipient and is to be used toward furthering the recipient's music education pursuits at the school of the student's choice.
The Renewal Scholarship will continue to be based on merit in the following areas:
Citizenship
Talent
Leadership
Personal Discipline
Commitment
Personal integrity
The Renewal Scholarship will also continue to be based on need as it relates to other scholarships the student is currently receiving. The student must submit documentation of all other scholarship monies awarded for the same time period for which they are applying for the renewal of the Randolph Adams Honorary Scholarship.
In order for this scholarship to be renewable for any time during the four-year undergraduate time period, the recipient must continue to meet the same criteria that applied when the scholarship was originally awarded.
The student was a SHHS Chorus student originally awarded a Randolph Adams Honorary Scholarship.
The student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher documented by official college transcripts. The student must submit two letters of recommendation documenting their area of study and active participation in a college music program (one of these letters must be from the student's advisor).
If the student's overall GPA falls below 3.0, the scholarship committee and/or the Choral Boosters Board reserves the right to discontinue further renewal opportunities. The Board also reserves the right to ask for the student to refund all or part of the Randolph Adams Scholarship monies. The scholarship committee and/or the Board will review such situations on a case-by-case basis. This could require the student to meet with these committees or submit additional information.
The renewal applicant understands that he/she will be in competition with current SHHS choral seniors as well as other renewal applicants. The number of scholarships and amounts of monies awarded will be determined yearly by the Choral Booster's Board.
The Choral Booster's President shall appoint a committee to review applications for the Randolph Adams Honorary Scholarship. This committee shall consist of the Choral Director, a non-applicant from the student executive committee, the President of the Choral Boosters or their designee (no parent or relative of an applicant may serve on this committee. The Committee shall decide upon the scholarship recipients and amounts of monies awarded. The decisions of this Committee are final. Renewal recipients shall be notified in writing by May 31st of the application approval.
The Choral Boosters Board shall determine the amount of funds to be utilized for the Randolph Adams Honorary Scholarship each year. The scholarship committee will determine those students most deserving of the scholarship based on written applications. The committee reserves the right to meet with students to further determine scholarship recipients. The Committee can decide not to award this scholarship if they do not feel applicants meet or have established criteria.
The following must be submitted by mail to the SHHS Choral Director by April 30.
Signed renewal application.
Two letters of recommendation (one must be from advisor documenting enrollment in music degree program).
College transcript documenting GPA and music courses taken
Resume documenting extra-curricular and/or work activity.
Essay of why student is worthy of consideration for scholarship renewal.
If any of the above items are missing, the student will automatically be disqualified from scholarship consideration. The above information should be sent to:
