WELCOME!
What is
“Foundations of Technology”? This is a lab that has 12 different
modules (labs) with computer aids and hands on activities. The modules
in our classroom include:
-
Alternative Energy - students
learn about solar, wind, and water energy, along with alternative
fuels such as ethanol.
-
Computer Aided Drafting –
students learn about isometric drawings and create floor plans using
3-dimensional graphic software.
-
Digital Music – students learn
to read music, play a keyboard, and compose digital music.
-
Electricity and Electronics –
students learn about circuits, resistors, switches, relays,
solenoids, and generators.
-
Flight Technology – students
use the computer to learn about space, rockets, and satellites as
well as create their own rocket.
-
Forensic Science – students
investigate crimes and solve them by experimenting with soil
samples, ink, fabric samples, as well as learn how to dust and lift
fingerprints.
-
Laser Technology – students
use a laser to move sound and information, work with fiber optics,
and learn the history and future of lasers.
-
Mechanisms - students work
with gears, bearings, pulleys, and an inclined plane to make a
system work.
-
Pneumatics – students learn
how air is used as a tool in applications such as clamping, loading,
transfer lines, and robotics.
-
Research and Development –
students create a CO2 dragster by developing their ideas from a
sketch to an actual model.
-
Robotics – students use the
computer to program a robot to complete functions using coordinates.
-
Structural Engineering –
students learn the structure of trusses and bridges while creating
their own and testing the weight load on a structural tester.
Due
to the fact that this class uses so many materials in creating and
learning, there is a fee of $7.50 for materials. If you have any
questions or need to contact me for any reason I can be reached at
(423)232-2190 x4631, or by e-mail at
crows@jcschools.org.
Thank you and I look forward to a great year!
