South Side School Parent Involvement Policy
SY 08-09
South
Side School will encourage a strong home/school partnership that ensures
a safe, caring, challenging, and inspiring environment in which all
students, parents, and school staff work and learn together. As active
partners we will design, implement, and evaluate programs at South Side
School.
To
achieve these goals, the South Side staff will be responsible for the
following:
1. An Open House and Ice Cream Social will be
held early in the year. During this meeting, the Parent Involvement
Policy, Parent-School Compact, the Homework Policy, and parent
involvement opportunities for the upcoming year will be clearly
communicated.
2. Monthly school-wide newsletters, which
include items of general interest, positive parenting tips, and
announcements of upcoming local school or system-wide parent meetings,
will be sent to each home.
3. Six family nights, funded by Title I
resources, will be conducted throughout the school year. The subject(s)
of each will be determined by the results of the parent surveys.
Parents will be asked to evaluate each meeting.
4. Parent/Teacher conferences to discuss and
interpret individual student progress will be conducted at the school
during the month of September and as needed throughout the year.
5. During the school year, the Family/School
Coordinator, principal, and/or guidance counselor will conduct visits to
the homes of any child needing extra support. The purpose of the
meeting will be to review the services provided to the child and to
identify possible solutions to any problems the child is having.
6. An annual evaluation of the school-wide
program and parent involvement will be conducted in May. Parents will
be encouraged to offer suggestions for improvements.
7. The South Side Council and the faculty
will evaluate the program and review suggestions received from parents.
Modifications in the program will be based on this
information.
