Interest Survey

 

The interest survey for the Johnson City Virtual Academy is open and will close on Monday, March 1. It is very important that interested families fill out an Interest Survey for each student. Completing the survey does NOT mean that you are committing to your decision or are guaranteed admittance to the Academy. The district is using the survey to determine how many students are interested to begin planning for staffing purposes.

  •  HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? 

There is no cost for Johnson City, Tennessee school district students. Tuition will apply to those living outside of the Johnson City, Tennessee school district.

  • DO YOU ACCEPT STUDENTS FROM ANYWHERE IN TN? 

Yes, as long as you can prove that you live in the first region of the state of Tennessee. Tuition will apply to those living outside of the Johnson City Tennessee school district. Johnson City Schools Registration and Tuition Information

  • WHAT GRADES DOES JCVA SERVE? 

We plan to serve students in grades K-12.

  • WHAT CURRICULUM DO YOU USE? 

All of our curriculum is created by licensed TN teachers who teach for Johnson City Schools. We follow the Tennessee State Standards.

  • DO STUDENTS HAVE TO SHOW UP IN PERSON? 

Yes, students must show up in person to take TNReady/ End of Course and ACT/SAT tests. These tests are required in order to remain a student at JC Virtual Academy.

  • WILL MY STUDENT BE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN VARSITY ATHLETICS.

Currently, since it will be a "new school" with its own school number, a student who participated at the varsity level during the 2020-2021 school year will be ineligible to participate on the varsity level twelve months past their last date of participation at Science Hill if they transfer with an athletic record without a change of address. They will be eligible if they transfer to the virtual school without an athletic record provided they meet all other requirements. This is due to TSSAA eligibility rules.

June 18: Tentative Commit Date in PowerSchool (based on summer school)

  • A dedicated JCS Virtual Academy will allow our district to provide an equitable online, virtual option to all JCS students in the grades served, no matter where they are located.  When necessary, students will come to a central location for meetings, assessments, interventions, etc. 

  • By building on what we have learned this year through our remote learning model, we can design a flexible model combining live instruction from a JCS teacher with organized, self-paced, module-based work with specific benchmarks for progress.

  • We will staff appropriately to serve ALL students including students with disabilities, English language learners, and those students requiring additional academic support.

  • We realize that this model will reflect a shift in learning design for JCS families selecting this option, meeting the needs of our families and their children.

  • To maintain educational integrity, attendance will be based on both participation in live sessions and completion of work on time and at a level reflecting mastery of content.  The focus is on engagement and mastery in a technology-driven, interactive format.
