Woodland’s Jordan Dison named TETA Outstanding Teacher of the Year

Jordan Dison

Woodland Elementary 3rd grade teacher Jordan Dison was named the Tennessee Education Technology Association (TETA) Outstanding Teacher of the Year sponsored by Promethean. Dison is the first Johnson City Schools teacher to ever win this award. Teachers from across the state were nominated for the honor by their districts.

TETA Executive Director Terry Sue Fanning traveled from Nashville with her team to surprise Dison with the honor during a staff meeting at Woodland on Monday, May 22.

Fanning said she was happy to come to Johnson City to present Dison with the award and that Dison’s application stood out among other nominees. Fanning noted that the recognition isn’t about all the technology that Johnson City provides their teachers, but how Dison uses that technology to have an impact on her students.

“From her application, we could tell that Jordan is very thoughtful in the way that she incorporates the use of technology into her classroom for the sake of student learning,” Fanning said. “This award is about recognizing teachers for effectively using technology to strengthen the learning happening in their classroom.”

Dison was surprised by the honor, which will allow her to attend the TETA conference in November for free where she will also be recognized again at an awards banquet.

“It is truly an honor to be selected as the TETA Outstanding Teacher of the Year, as I know Tennessee is full of phenomenal educators doing amazing things each day for students,” Dison said. “I am blessed to serve in Johnson City Schools, where I have been given quality opportunities to learn and grow. Dr. David Timbs and Mrs. Tina Faust have been instrumental in my growth as a leader and educator, and I am thankful for their investments in my career. Woodland Principal Dr.  Karen Reach has also been a constant supporter of my use of technology in the classroom. I am humbled and thrilled to represent my school, district, and state in receiving this honor.”
