Liberty Bell 8th grader Mehal Dubay wins Johnson City Schools’ Spelling Bee

 

After 42 rounds, Liberty Bell 8th-grade student Mehal Dubay took home the Johnson City Schools District-Wide Spelling Bee title on Wednesday, January 24. The championship word for Dubay was silicon.

Indian Trail 8th-grader Cara Haynes took the runner-up trophy and was followed by Towne Acres 4th grader Vincent Joseph, who lasted 28 rounds against his older counterparts. Each school was represented by a school-level winner. All school-level winners will also have the opportunity to qualify for the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee if they make a qualifying score on the Scripp’s online test.
