Nelson named new assistant principal at Indian Trail Middle School

Johnson City Schools announced the hiring of Christy Nelson as an assistant principal at Indian Trail Middle School. Nelson joins that administrative team consisting of principal James Jacobs and assistant principals Chris Feathers and Whitney Pearson.

“We are excited to have Christy join the team at Indian Trail,” Johnson City Schools Superintendent Steve Barnett said. “Christy brings a variety of skills to our district that will be great additions to the Indian Trail leadership team and our school district.”

Nelson has been an assistant principal at Sullivan Heights Middle School since 2021. Before joining the admin team, she served as a district-wide elementary English language arts instructional leader in Sullivan County for five years. Before stepping into a district-wide role, Nelson had more than 14 years of experience as a teacher.

Nelson earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1999. She later earned her Master of Arts in Education from Tusculum University (2004) before earning an Educational Specialist in Supervision and Leadership from Union College in 2014.
